Join the first ever LUBS Community Iftaar!

We are very excited to invite ALL students for a "breaking of the fast" gathering this March: share knowledge, food and good company.

What to expect

Ramadan is a time for reflection, gratitude, and community. Whether you are observing the fast or simply want to connect with other students and learn more about the ‘Month of the Qur’an,’ we’d love for you to join us for a very special evening.

We’re bringing the LUBS family together to break the fast (Iftaar) with a delicious hot meal from local favorite My Lahore.

This is a safe, open space for staff and students of all faiths or none, to share experiences and increase our understanding of Ramadan. A private salah / prayer space will also be available for practising Muslims.

The event starts at 17:00. We will observe the sunset prayer together - you are more than welcome to participate or simply observe - before we dive into some amazing food! We’ll wrap up around 19:00 - 19:30, leaving you plenty of time for evening prayers or your journey home.

LUBS Community Iftaar: Breaking the fast together

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is known as the 'month of the Quran', as this is the month in which it was first revealed. Muslims honour this special month by fasting, as this is considered one of the highest forms of worship in the Islamic faith.

We will have a pre-dawn meal (suhoor) to start the fast and then break it with a meal at sunset (Iftaar).

The holy month is set to begin on either the 18 or 19 February 2026. ‘Fasting’ is also one of the five pillars of Islam.

Why do Muslims fast?

Fasting gives ourselves the opportunity to have more control of our needs, improve our self-discipline and make us more grateful for what we have. Doing this for 30 days helps to create good habits to live by for the rest of the year. It also gives us more time to worship God and allows us to empathise with those who are less fortunate around the world.

What do we do more of during this month?

As well as fasting, during this month we will generally be engaged in more worship such as praying, reading the Qur’an, giving charity and other helpful acts. We will also have more community gatherings when breaking the fast and praying together at night.

See you there!
