Business Faculty Engagement Leader (FEL)

This page introduces your 2026/27 Faculty Engagement Leader (FEL) . This elected position is held by a Business School student but managed by Leeds University Union. Faculty Engagement Leaders work closely with the other levels of rep, Faculty staff, LUU and the central University to make student life better for YOU.

Mobarak Hossain, Faculty Engagement Leader for LUBS 2026/27

Something could be better?
Tell me.

I'm Mobarak Hossain, your elected Business Faculty Engagement Leader at LUU. I'm a PhD student at LUBS, and one of your channels and advocates.

A channel

You tell me what could be better. I raise it first within the Business School, with student reps, staff and faculty committees, and bring in LUU where needed.

An advocate

I argue your case, in the School and at LUU, and I come back to you with the response.

What can you raise?

Leeds University Union (LUU) is a charity organisation that works in partnership with the University and includes advice teams, student societies, and many student leadership roles, including Faculty Engagement Leaders like myself.

LUU provides a key student representation network. If you want to see a change in LUU or the University use the contact buttons further down this page to make your voice heard.

Here are a few example issues around student life that you may have ideas or concerns about:

  • Assessment and feedback
  • Timetabling, resources, exams
  • Employability and your wider academic experience
  • Accommodation
  • Transport
  • Cost of living and your wider life in Leeds

How it works

How it gets there

Me: first within the Business School, then with LUU where needed.
LUU: in partnership with the University.

Student experience

What the University keeps, stops or introduces, for us and for those who come after us.

Whatever your issue, I will support you in finding the right network to solve it.

What I want to look into this year

  • A foundation course before modules start: two weeks on the skills every module assumes: referencing software, academic writing, essential digital skills, marking criteria, academic integrity, and how classroom participation works here.
  • A feedback loop you can see and trust: an easy, anonymous way to raise issues, termly "You said, LUBS did" updates, and an LUU representative on request when you feel treated unfairly.
  • Jobs now, not only employability later: part-time work for students within the University and outside it.
  • Better support for PhD researchers (PGRs): enough preparation time, pedagogy training and a teaching certificate, alignment between the first-year PhD modules they take and their transfer document, and less paperwork (for example a prepaid card for conference travel).
