August Resits 2025: Guidance for Postgraduate Students
If you are a postgraduate student and have failed a module, don't worry - all students have the opportunity to re-sit a module they have failed. This page will help you understand what action you need to take. It is important to meet the deadlines, so please read carefully and check your University email for messages from the LUBS Assessment Team.
How to apply for resits
You can apply online via Minerva to resit your failed modules during the August 2025 resit period.
Resit applications open on 12:00 noon Monday 7 July 2025
The deadline to apply for a resit is 12:00 (midday) Wednesday 16 July 2025.
Resits for postgraduate assessments are capped at a maximum mark of 50.
Academic Advice Sessions
The Business School will be holding two Academic Advice Sessions to offer advice to students with concerns about progression or questions around re-sits.
The Advice Sessions are being held on campus at the following times:

Applying to Resit

When do I apply for a resit?
Resit applications open on 12:00 noon Monday 7 July 2025.

Do I need pay for resits?
No.
There is no charge for resits at the University of Leeds.
What happens if I miss the resit application deadline?
It is very important you try your best to meet the resit application deadline.
After the deadline to apply has passed and you still want a resit, you must contact LUBS Assessment at lubsassessment@leeds.ac.uk
Warning: The acceptance of a late resit application depends on whether the module resit assessment is available in August.
Can I make changes to my resit application form after it’s submitted?
You can makes changes to your resit application before the resit deadline: 12:00 (midday) Wednesday 16 July 2025.
Cancelling resits
Once an exam period has started, it is not possible to cancel any re-sits.
If you wish to cancel a resit you must contact the LUBS Assessment Team at lubsassessment@leeds.ac.uk
How many assessments can I apply to resit?
The LUBS Taught Postgraduate resit policy is that students can resit a maximum of three assessments during the August resit period.
Taking more than three resits
If you wish to take three or more resits you must apply to take the maximum of three assessments in August.
The remaining assessments would be taken in the following academic year, during either January 2026 or May 2026.
If you take less than the maximum of three resits allowed in August you will lose the opportunity to take any other resit assessments in the future.
Timing of resits - Examples
Example 1
If you have failed 2 modules and you choose to take 1 in August you will lose the opportunity to re-sit the remaining module in the future.
Example 2
If you have failed 3 modules and you choose to take 2 in August you will lose the opportunity to re-sit the remaining module in the future.
Example 3
If you have failed 4 modules and you choose to take 2 in August you will lose the opportunity to re-sit the remaining module in the future.
Priority resits
You must prioritise modules that are Pass for Progression (PFP), to expunge academic malpractice (plagiarism resits) and first attempt assessments.
Please contact the LUBS Assessment Team if you require further explanation of the rules concerning taking three or more resits.
First Attempts due to mitigating circumstances
If you have been granted a first attempt(s) by the School’s Special Cases Committee, on the grounds of mitigating circumstances, you will have received an email from the student support team. Please check your University email account carefully.

Academic Malpractice (Plagiarism) Resits
If you are required resit a module to expunge a plagiarism case you should apply to re-sit these in the usual way via Minerva
I have outstanding marks, can I still apply for a resit?
If you are waiting for some marks you can still apply to re-sit the modules you know you have not passed.
You will be notified via email when outstanding marks are available.
