Moving around the site
At the top of each page you will see a list of the different sections in the Guide. Clicking one of these will create a drop-down menu listing all of the pages within a section.
If you are using a mobile device, such as a phone or tablet, these section headings can be found under the "menu" button in the top-left of a page:
What's on the Homepage
The top of the page has a large banner which highlights important new pages or Business School news, use the arrows or select titles to move between items.
Beneath the banner, you will find three sections with thumbnail images and brief descriptions of the content they link to:
Events - details about all of the upcoming events available to LUBS students to help support your learning and boost your career chances.
News & Opportunities - these links contain information on what our wonderful students have been doing, as well as listings for paid work, internships and other career opportunities.
Blogs - here you can follow links to longer articles about life and activities at LUBS, often written by students.
LUBS Student Guide: the main sections
Welcome - These are the Welcome Packs for new and returning students, including the one you are reading now! These pages will be left up throughout the year, and recordings of live induction events will be added to them for catch-up viewing.
Exams & Assessment - The pages in these sections provide information on the rules and requirements for the assessments you will complete throughout your degree. Preparation is the key to success, so make sure you read this information carefully before you have exams or complete assignments.
Digital Learning - studying at University involves using a wide range of digital technologies to communicate with staff and students, access information and complete your assignments. These pages cover the tools available to you and teach you how to use them.
Support - Everyone needs a little help sometimes. At LUBS, our dedicated support teams are here to assist students with their studies and any other challenges they may face. In these pages you can read guides to a variety of support topics, as well as make an appointment if you need to speak to someone.
LUBS Community - This section covers a wide range of opportunities, events and initiatives from across the School. Check these pages when you want to learn about clubs and societies, get involved in sustainability, or take advantage of the many educational talks and activities available to LUBS students.
Employability & Opportunity - Our dedicated Employability Team are here to help ensure that you develop the skills and experience needed to kickstart your career and make you stand out to graduate employers. Read the pages to learn about the help and activities they offer, and how to contact the Team for assistance.
Forms & Guidance - At different times during your time at the Business school you may need to complete forms, download a coversheet for assignments or read through guidance. Downloadable templates for all of these items can be found here.
Get involved
Hello! I'm Mark Hackney, Student Communications Officer at LUBS. I manage the Student Guide website and help both staff and students to promote their messages and plans across the School.
The Student Guide is filled with useful information from staff teams across the Business school, but there is another invaluable source of knowledge which we want to make sure is available - yours!
Throughout the year we will publish articles in the blog section written by students. These are a chance to inspire and inform by sharing your experiences on any topic relevant to your University journey. Those could range from advice on securing work placements, how you overcame challenges in your University life, student interviews with local business leaders, or anything else you would like to share.
One of our wonderful 2024 graduates has published a message to you all through the LUBS Student Guide - go here to read it.
Promote your activity
If you are involved in an activity you want to promote to other LUBS students, such as a society event or other student-led initiative, we can discuss doing this through the Student Guide as well as other channels such as the network of LUBS display screens and email digests.
To discuss writing content for the Student Guide, ask for help promoting your activity or anything else related to student comms, please don't hesitate to contact me at m.hackney@leeds.ac.uk
I knew that if I failed I wouldn’t regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not trying.
